In 2008, Jonathan Coulton fans sent a stuffed monkey traveling all over the world.
Among his many stops was Scarborough Faire.
The 600 images fly by pretty fast in this amazing video but the more I watch it the more faces and places I recognize from that visit.
See how many you can spot.
This was filmed in Bristol on the recent UK tour.
Shock the Monkey
Song starts at 1:50
Lil Cthulhu is hungry after his long nap. What does he do? He eats his followers!
So this weekend in Chicago, Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm found themselves playing on the same evening as They Might Be Giants, and not just any TMBG show but a Flood show, in which TMBG play all the songs from their big album Flood.
Knowing their fan bases overlap and being big fans themselves they felt the pain of those forced to have to decide which show to go to. So, to make things better for those who chose their show the guys decided to do a Flood show of their own, covering every song on the album start to finish.
Paul and Storm are the regular openers for Coulton and he normaly brings them back on stage to do harmony with him on a few songs during his set but this performance was very different with Paul and Storm also playing instruments like the trumpet and melodica and bass. That's a big deal for two guys who got their start in an a capella group like DaVinci's Notebook.
While the video is not so great here. (iphone from next to the soundboard) the audio is really good. Two songs are covered here. Lucky Ball and Chain and Istanbul, which I think really rocks starts at 2:20 or just click this link

also you can go to Youtube and see the whole Flood portion of the show here.

This is awesome!
Cosmos was one of my favorite things on television when I was younger. This video manages to kindle a yearning for the future (soon!) as well as filling me with nostalgia.
The Fun: Walking Bourbon. Losts of sights and sounds. Music of different kinds blaring from every bar. I would have liked to just picked a corner to stand on for an a couple of hours or so.
The High: Saturday night my cold was nearly abated and I felt better than I had so far. We walked Bourbon for a bit then went to a hole in the wall Bar that Monica knew about. Afterward we walked to Café du Monde for beignets. Went to bed at 4.
The Low: Because of my sinus congestion, Flying in on Friday I thought my eardrums were going to burst. I was virtually deaf for most of the afternoon. Also missed out on most of the food experience because my sense of taste was diminished. Too drunk on Saturday.
Enjoyed: Stopped at a bar called the Funky Pirate. Guy there playing acoustic blues. Really nice.
The Good: Our hotel. The Bourbon Orleans, right in the middle of all the action. Really, really nice spot.
The Bad: Dana seems to have picked up my cold. Though I guess she could have got it much earlier and not have had as good a time so that’s good.
The Interesting: Had a conversation with a guy who was: A waiter/bouncer, An Actor who’s done every Shakespeare and Neil Simon play, a mixed martial arts expert who might as well have trained with Bruce Lee, half Cherokee half Irish raised by Italians. An all star soccer goalie and football center, cat owner, juggler, married to and supporting a bi-sexual medical student studying to be a surgeon with whom he’s had 6 threesomes so far and who is going to earn a million dollars and support him in a few years.
The Miracle: Thunderstorms were in the forecast all weekend and I was convinced we’d be walking through the rain and my cold would turn to pneumonia. Instead we had partly cloudy skies and excellent weather all weekend. Not a drop of rain.
Me:"You know what would sound great next? Journey of the Sorcerer." Shuffly iPod:"Yeah you're right!" *plays song* I love agreeable devices.
